MARVELOUS MONDAY 10-5-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the pattern on our October calendar.
...the 2 new events added to our October calendar (Spirit Day and Campfire Day).
...the new password.
...the letter we decorated today and what we used to decorate it.
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...what I did during Letter Groups.
...what I did in P.E.
...what I learned about the author, Mo Willems.

MORNING MESSAGE~
Today Gisele was the Friendly Frog.  We brainstormed words that begin with the /J/ sound like in Gisele.  This led to a discussion about both the letters "G" and "J" can make the /J/ sound.
 CALENDAR~
We added 2 new events to our October calendar.
This Friday is "Spirit Day" for the entire school.  Children can wear an Academy "spirit wear" shirt.  Dress Code should be worn from the waist down.
On Friday, October 23rd, (the last day of our Pre-K Outdoor Week), we will hike into the woods at Academy with our 2nd grade buddies for campfire stories!  Ms. Oeth and Mrs. Arner, our wonderful Lower School Librarians, organize and facilitate this Lower School tradition.

FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
At the Fine Motor Station, children can work on their eye-hand coordination by hammering golf tees into a styrofoam board.

In the Construction Zone, children can build with small plastic cups, tongue depressors and cubes.

At the Creation Station, children can use various materials and tools (paper, crayons, markers, scissors, glue, colored pencils, tape, a stapler) to create!

During Free Choice time today, we decorated our letter "M" with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
 LETTER GROUPS~
In Mrs. Spolter's Letter Group, we reviewed the letters and their sounds for A, C, D, G and O.  We played a Mystery Bag game where a child reaches in, pulls out an object and then identifies its beginning sound.

AUTHOR STUDY~
We have already read many books by author, Mo Willems.  Today we listened to an interview of Mo Willems.  Be sure to ask your child what books are his favorite to write and also the one thing Mo puts in every book he writes.

 EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was a Cooking Day!  First, we read the story, Naughty Little Monkeys.  Next, we made monkey bread!  The children helped cut up biscuits, shook them in a bag of cinnamon-sugar mixture, and helped pour a butter and brown sugar mixture over the top.  There were requests for third helpings on this YUMMY snack!  The teachers limited it to 2 helpings and served milk and oranges to make a little healthier.  The children have already requested that we make monkey bread again!
