LETTER SOUND~
We only have 3 more letter sounds to do before the end of the school year!  Today, we spent time reviewing all of the letter sounds we have done so far.  We also talked about the letter sound /X/ and decorated our letter "X" with eXclamation  points!

 FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Since we have been talking about symmetry, we added an activity to the Discovery Station for the children to practice what they have learned.  Using puff balls and a butterfly pattern, children can create symmetrical butterfly wings!

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
For our Discovery activity today, Ms. Hansen brought 2 visitors to our classroom--2 chicks that hatched in Pre-K "B"'s classroom.  The children were able to pet the chicks and observe them walking, trying to flap their wings, and how they interacted with one another.  Of course, we also got to observe the chicks going to the bathroom on our tile floor.

...the new activities at Free Choice time.
...what I did in Music.

...what we learned about symmetry.
...whether or not butterfly wings are symmetrical.
...what happened in Charlotte's Web.
FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Today we introduced some new tasks for Free Choice time.

At the Fine Motor Station, children can place beads on a flower or butterfly template.  Once all the beads have been placed, the beads are ironed (by the teacher) and melt together.  The template is then removed.  This is a tedious task!
Elliott investigates our butterfly specimens with a magnifying glass.
At Math Magic, children use a 100 chart and color in the numbers as indicated below.  Once all of the numbers are colored in, the picture is a.....

...butterfly!

At the Creation Station, children can create their own mini book version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
We read another great story about the life cycle of a butterfly.
We then did a lesson on symmetry.  Using a blank butterfly, we created symmetrical wings on the butterfly.  The teacher would place a sticker on one side of the butterfly and gave a matching sticker to the child to place on the other side of the butterfly to make it symmetrical.

BIRTHDAY~
Today we helped Avery celebrate his April birthday!  Avery's mom read the Dr. Seuss story,  I Am NOT Going to Get Up Today!.  We then enjoyed popcorn for Avery's birthday treat.
Happy Birthday, Avery!
EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Due to an afternoon fire drill, we did Technology today and will do Discovery on Thursday.  We did the game, "Race to 100" on the SMARTBoard.

LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
We read a story about the life cycle of a butterfly that was told from the perspective of a butterfly.  Ask your child some of these questions:
1.  What is the first thing a caterpillar eats when he/she hatches out of the egg shell.
2.  Why does a caterpillar need to protect itself from birds and spiders?
3.  What happens when a caterpillar outgrows its skin?
4.  When does a caterpillar change into a butterfly?
5.  How does a butterfly drink nectar from a flower?
STAR OF THE WEEK~
Avery is our "Star of the Week"!   Today we learned that Avery's favorite things include: green, yellow and blue (favorite colors); Iowa (favorite place to visit); and playing basketball with his brother (favorite activity).  Avery shared a basketball that has been signed by the Harlem Globetrotters.  We enjoyed getting to know more about you, Avery!

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was suppose to be a Swimming Day.  Because there was no lifeguard available, we were unable to swim.  Instead, Mr. Yakscoe and Mrs. Hildahl did games and activities with the Pre-K students on the football field.
