FANTASTIC FRIDAY 2-18-14

ASK ME ABOUT...
...what we watched in the theater this morning at Lower School Assembly.

OUTER SPACE~
Here is what we have added to our Space Station....

...a model of the Moon with the facts that we have learned.
 ...our Sun representing how many Earths equal the diameter of the sun.
 ...our constellations.

 Ask your child to share the information from our February weather graph.
 These children used teamwork to order the astronaut numbers and count the stars!

Today's Dr. Seuss story was....
REMEMBER...
MONDAY MARCH 3RD IS "READ ACROSS AMERICA" DAY!   TO HELP US CELEBRATE, PLEASE HAVE YOUR PRE-K CHILD BRING IN A QUILT ON MONDAY AND WEAR A DR. SEUSS/CAT IN THE HAT-STYLE SHIRT.  DRESS CODE SHOULD BE WORN FROM THE WAIST DOWN.

THRILLING THURSDAY 2-27-14

Mrs. Figlik spent the morning with us while Mrs. B., Ms. Schroeder and Mrs. Spolter were taking a class.
 Mrs. Figlik read us the story, There Was A Bold Lady Who Wanted A Star.
 After the Space story, we worked on a Space page to show what we've learned to far!

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 2-26-14

FREE CHOICE~
Kyndal, Vivian and Emily build with the Lincoln Logs in the Construction Zone.
 OUTER SPACE~
We continued learning about stars and constellations today.

 We divided the class into 2 groups.  Each group created its own constellation, including naming it.


 The Unicorn Group's constellation, "The Great Maze", is pictured below.
 The Dolphin Group's constellation, "The Dog", is pictured below.  We will hang both constellations on the ceiling in our Space Station.
 QUIET QUILT DAY~
A note came home in your child's folder today about some special activities Pre-K is going to do next Monday, March 3rd, "Read Across America" day.  Pre-K children should bring in a small quilt (or blanket) and we will spend some part of our morning looking at/reading books on our quilts.  Since this day is also set aside to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, children may wear a Dr. Seuss/ Cat in the Hat style shirt (red, white, red and white striped, etc.).  Dress Code should be worn from the waist down.

TERRIFIC TUESDAY 2-25-14

ASK ME ABOUT...

FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Willa and Sophia work together on math tasks--ordering numbers from 0 to 20 and counting stars.



 Our Dramatic Play Station now has a space shuttle and astronaut suits!  We are ready to blast off!
 
 
 Morgan works on a rhyming task at the Alphabet Station.
 Noah works on creating patterns with Outer Space objects.


 Laken exercises his spatial reasoning skills with the geoboard.


 DR. SEUSS~
In preparation for "Read Across America" and Dr. Seuss' birthday next Monday, we will read various Dr. Seuss stories this week.  Today, Ms. Schroeder read us, Green Eggs and Ham.
 

 STAR OF THE WEEK~
 Jean-Luc is our new "Star of the Week"!  Today we learned that Jean-Luc's favorite dessert is popsicles, favorite colors are red and blue, and favorite restaurant is The Rusty Bucket.  Jean-Luc also shared photos with us.  We enjoyed getting to know you better, Jean-Luc!
 

 OUTER SPACE~
Maya shares her observations of last night's moon in the moon journal.
 

 We read a simple book about the Solar System.
We each made a "model" of the Moon, the Earth, and the Sun to assist us in understanding how the Earth spins, the Earth travels around the Sun, and the Moon travels around the Earth.  Be sure to ask your child to share his/her model with you and sing the song we've been learning!

Today we helped Nate celebrate his half-birthday.  Nate read the class a Mo Willems story, Should I Share My Ice Cream?.  Next, we at chocolate chip cookies for Nate's birthday treat.  Happy Half Birthday, Nate!


OUTER SPACE~
Today we learned about stars!  We learned...
...stars are suns.
...you can tell how how a star is by its color.
...blue stars are the hottest.
...the Sun is the closest star to Earth.
...that sailors used stars as a guide to know where they were going.

Today we read the story, Who Gets The Sun Out Of Bed?.  Be sure to ask your child who woke up the sun?
Today we did an activity to represent how many Earths will fit across the sun.  A large piece of yellow paper represented the sun and tiny blue and green circle stickers represented the Earth.





We discovered that 109 Earths fit across the sun!
