MORNING MESSAGE~
We have some amazing "password detectives" in our class.  In today's morning message, we had children comment that they found some of our previous passwords inside of other words.  For example, one child offered that the word, "we" is inside of Owen's name.  Another child found the word, "he" inside of the words the, helping, and others.  WOW!

CALENDAR~
As part of our calendar activities today, we played the "straw game".   With the straws we use for counting the number of days we have been in school, the teacher presents a combination of the straws (groups of 10 and single straws) to an individual child.  The child counts the straws and then tells how many straws are represented.  The children did amazingly well with this activity.  We told them they were doing first-grade thinking!
Two groups of ten straws represents 20.

Four groups of ten straws represents 40.

 HALLOWEEN STORY~
Today we read the story, The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything.  After the first reading, we assigned each child a part in the story and "acted out" the story on the second reading.  Be sure to ask your child which part he/she did!
