TERRIFIC TUESDAY 10-8-13

MORNING MESSAGE~
Our morning message always starts out with, "Hello Friends,".  Today, we omitted the word, "Friends", and asked the children for ideas of other words we could fill in that place instead of "Friends".  The children came up with great ideas:  Everyone, Pre-K Class, etc.  Scroll to the next photo to see what word was used today in place of "Friends".

WORK STATIONS AND FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Jean-Luc and Maya find numbers hidden in the sensory tub and match them to the chart.

Walker and Vivian exercise their fine motor and math skills by stretching rubber bands on to the cup in a pattern.

Children use letter stampers to spell color words in the playdough.
At the Alphabet Station, children were introduced to our "Sound Drawers".  Each letter of the alphabet has its own drawer filled with a few objects beginning with that letter sound.  To do the activity, children choose 2 drawers, mix up the objects from both drawers, and then separate them into 2 groups, according to their beginning sound.

COLORS~
Yesterday, we read the story, The Crayon Box That Talked, to begin our study of Colors.  During the next few weeks, we will be discussing primary colors and secondary colors; experimenting with mixing colors; learning about rainbows; and reading both non-fiction and fiction books about colors.

On the bulletin board in our classroom, children can practice reading the color words by matching them to pictures of that color.  There is a color poster for those children who may need assistance in reading the color words.

THE NEW PASSWORD IS....
 STORY~
Today we read the story, Silly Sally.  This story was filled with fun, rhymes, repetitive phrases and great illustrations.  The story also allowed for the children to make predictions and to identify cause and effect situations.   This would be a great book for you to have at home for your children!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!~Today we helped Willa celebrate her birthday.  Willa's grandmother, "Nana", read the story Pinkalicious to the class.  Then, we enjoyed eating brownies with pink frosting for Willa's birthday treat  (made by her Nana).  Happy Birthday, Willa!

...what word was missing from our morning message and what word we filled in instead.
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...what I did in Music.
...the story, Silly Sally.
...the new password.
 ...whose birthday we celebrated.
