~NEW WORK STATIONS~
We introduced new Work Stations today.  At the Writing Station, children are making their page for our class book about Winter.  Children glue down the words of their sentence describing what they like to do in the Winter and then illustrate their page. 

 


At Math Magic, children are graphing Winter items.

 
 
 At the Fine Motor Station, children are practicing cutting skills.

 

 At the Creation Station, children are creating their own snowman or snow creature using a variety of materials.

 

In the Book Nook, children can choose a Winter story to hear.

 At Games Galore, children are playing "Rush Hour" on the I-pads.

 ~HOLIDAY LIGHTS~
 Today we read a story about another upcoming celebration--Kwanzaa.  After the story, we discussed the various holidays we have discussed and the common ways we celebrate these holidays.

 ~MATH GROUPS~
During this morning's Math Groups, the Horse Group learned and did Sudoku with Mrs. B while the Dolphin Group did a Tangram activity on the I-pads.

 We introduced a new Sudoku activity that children can do during Free Choice time.
 

~WINTER~
Each child shared his/her favorite activity to do in the Winter.  We will now create a class book about Winter with the children's ideas and illustrations.
 
 
 We showed the children a Winter book done by a previous class.

 Today we read the story Snowballs (be sure to ask your child what kind of word snowballs is) in preparation for creating our own snow creatures during Work Station time beginning tomorrow.  Children will use a variety of "junk" (recycled and saved items) to create their snow creature.

~WINTER~

Today we read a book called, Snow, to help us get ready for Winter.  We will also be making a class book about the activities we like to do during the Winter.

 

 ~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~

Today we worked on the I-pads.  Children could choose to do "Rush Hour" or "Jungle Pairs".

Both activities were a huge hit!

 ~HOLIDAY LIGHTS~
We read a story and had a discussion about Christmas and the various ways people celebrate Christmas.

 ~DRAMATIC PLAY STATION~
Next week, we will transform our Dramatic Play Station into a zoo!  Today we brainstormed what we will need and what we can make for our zoo.  As we mentioned before, children can bring in 1 item (labeled with his/her name) to use in our zoo.  The items will be returned when our zoo is finished.

 ~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was "Beach Day" in Swimming class.  This means the children can choose the equipment they use and the activities they do in the pool.  After Swimming, we asked the children to name their favorite part of "Beach Day".  Here were their responses....

~"Everything"
~"Swimming in the deep end"
~"Jumping off the diving blocks"
~"Jumping in the water"
~"Getting to choose what equipment we use"
~"Getting to stand on the platform"
~"Getting to do whatever we want"

NOTE: SWIM SUITS WERE SENT HOME TODAY TO BE WASHED.  PLEASE RETURN YOUR CHILD'S SWIM SUIT TO SCHOOL BY WEDNESDAY,  JANUARY 6TH, 2016.  THIS WILL BE OUR FIRST SWIMMING CLASS AFTER THE WINTER BREAK.
