FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
We introduced many new activities today for Free Choice time.
In the Construction Zone, we have pipe builders. Children were making letters and numbers with them. Then, they made a structure which they called an obstacle course.
At the Writing Station, children can practice writing the letters they have been learning in handwriting lessons.
At the Fine Motor Station, children can strengthen their fine motor muscles by transferring the rubber balls from one bowl to another using a tool we call a "grabber".
These boys counted the frogs they found in the counting basket. There were 100!!
DRAMA~
Be sure to ask your child what is happening in the photos below of today's Drama class.
COLORS~
As part of our study of Colors, we read a book today about rainbows. Be sure to ask your child what color is always at the top of the rainbow and what color is always at the bottom of the rainbow. Ask your child when the best time is to look for a rainbow. Children will have the opportunity to create their own rainbow during a Work Station at the Creation Station.
NURSERY RHYME~
We introduced a new nursery rhyme today in the Book Nook with some interesting new vocabulary words! Be sure to ask your child what a tuffet is!
EXTENDED DAY~
Our Discovery lesson today involved balance. First, children had the opportunity to explore their own balance by walking on a taped line on the floor.
Next, working with a partner, children had to balance a ruler on top of a rectangle-shaped eraser. It was interesting to watch their discoveries and problem-solving. After they figured out how to do it, they had to guide the teacher in balancing her ruler on her eraser.
Next, children were given a penny and instructed to put the penny on top of the ruler on the number 12. They were told to balance the ruler on top of the eraser without moving the penny. With some guidance and encouragement to keep trying, the children determined that they had to move the eraser closer to the (penny) end of the ruler. They were then given more pennies to try to balance on their ruler. We definitely used our scientific thinking today!
