MORNING MESSAGE~

The question on the Morning Message involved patterning.  After everyone answered the question, Mrs. "B" explained that this particular pattern is an AABC pattern.

 HANDWRITING~
Today children learned and practiced writing the letter "U" in their handwriting books.
During Calendar today, we played the "cube game".  The teacher shows a child a different amount of cubes using base ten blocks.  (We also use the base ten blocks when counting the number of days in school.)  The child counts the cubes to determine the amount.  When doing this activity, children are practicing counting by 10's.

The photo below has 1 group of ten (the green rod) and 1 single cube (the yellow cube).  This makes 11.
The amount of cubes in the photo below is 31.

 FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
The sensory tub is now filled with kinetic sand.  This sand is great for molding as it is damp--not too wet and not too dry.
Clare experiments with balance at the Discovery Station.

  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!~
Today we helped Mitch celebrate his November birthday!  Mitch's mom read a story about Frog and Toad.  We then enjoyed eating Mitch's birthday treat--chocolate chip cookies!  Happy Birthday, Mitch!
 EXTENDED DAY~
We started today's cooking lesson by reading the story, Too Many Lollipops by Robert Quackenbush.  We then showed the children some jolly rancher candies, lollipop sticks and a cooking sheet and asked them how we could make lollipops using these supplies.  Be sure to ask your child how we made the lollipops!
