TERRIFIC TUESDAY 4-26-16

ASK ME ABOUT...
...what I did during Free Choice time.
...our guest visitor from Mexico, Senor Armando Hernandez.
...our new "Star of the Week".

~FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Today we introduced a few new activities for Free Choice time.
In the picture below, Bella has constructed a caterpillar by putting the parts in numerical order, counting by 5's to 100.

Alex built all 3 caterpillars--counting by 1's to 30; counting by 5's to 100; and counting by 10's to 100.

At the Creation Station, children follow a guide for coloring in certain numbers on a 100 chart.  Can you tell what the finished picture is?

 ~SPANISH~
Today we met Senor Armando Hernandez who is visiting our school from Mexico.  Senor Hernandez shared with us and answered our questions about the butterfly sanctuaries in his hometown, where butterflies migrate during the Winter.  Senor Rentel helped translate.

Sydney is our new Star of the Week!  Her favorite things include:  Piada (favorite restaurant); the beach (favorite place to visit); and rainbow (favorite colors).  We enjoyed seeing and hearing about your photos, Sydney!  Thank you for helping us get to know you better.

 ~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was a Discovery Day!  We started an experiment that we will revisit in the next few days.
We put tiny water marbles into different amounts of water.  Before adding the marbles to the water, children made predictions.  We will check back tomorrow to see if anything happened.

MARVELOUS MONDAY 4-25-16

ASK ME ABOUT....
...the new activities at Free Choice time.
...the new password.
...the story, Gotta Go!  Gotta Go!
...where butterflies go in the Winter and what it is called.
...what I did in P.E.
...what happened in Charlotte's Web.
...Quiet Quilt Day.

~QUIET QUILT DAY~
A note came home in your child's folder today about our Pre-K Quiet Quilt Day this Thursday.

~LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
Today we read the book, Gotta Go!  Gotta Go! about a caterpillar instinctively knowing that she needs to go to Mexico but she doesn't know why or how she will get there.  The story continues as she progresses through the stages of her life until she becomes a butterfly.  She then flies to Mexico;  stays there for the Winter; and returns to the North to lay eggs on milkweed plants.   This led us into the discussion of migration.  We will continue to discuss the butterflies' migration to Mexico tomorrow in Spanish class when we will have a visitor from Mexico join us.
~EARTH DAY~
Today we continued our Earth Day lesson and asked each child what he/she can to help the Earth.  We will display the Earths that the children created last Friday with their ideas on how to help on the bulletin board outside of our classroom.
~FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Children retell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar on the flannel board.
Bella and Chi-Chi play with our new butterfly dominoes.
At the Alphabet Station, children can choose to create a small flip book about the butterfly life cycle.

Tej builds with new blocks we added to the Construction Zone.

Children wrapped their caterpillars into a chrysalis today and hung them in the classroom.  We are eagerly waiting to see what happens!

~SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY~
Today we assigned parts and began practicing for a special presentation we are doing for our guests on Special Friends Day.

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
