MORNING MEETING~
During our Morning Meeting, we discussed what a compound word is. In our morning message, there was the word snowflake. Children were shown how this word is two words put together. When asked for other compound words, one student said, "rainbow", while another student said, "snowman".
FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Margo creates designs on a geoboard.
Enjoying reading activities in the Book Nook.
SNOWMAN SONG/POEM~
The children pictured below helped us to act out a snowman song we have been learning.
Today we made quilt squares that convey our ideas about kindness and making others feel happy! After reading the The Kindness Quilt
by Nancy E. Wallace, we brainstormed different ways to show kindness. With our Second
Grade buddies, we made our quilt blocks (See below). Before the blocks
are assembled into a quilt they will be displayed with the blocks made
by other Lower, Middle and Upper school students during the MLK
gathering on Friday, January 16th.
Columbus Academy has long participated in service learning activities with Project Linus,
a national organization that donates hand made quilts and blankets to children in crisis.
The Columbus, Ohio chapter distributes blankets to local kids through
law enforcement, fire departments, Children's hospital and Franklin
County. Our blocks will be donated to create quilts to be donated!
STAR OF THE WEEK~
Spencer is our new Star of the Week! Spencer shared photos of himself and his family and shared with us some of his favorite things including, cars (favorite toy), yellow (favorite color), and ladybugs (favorite animal). Thank you for helping us get to know you better, Spencer!
