FANTASTIC FRIDAY 1-30-15

ASK ME ABOUT...

FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
 Scarlett puts together a "Pete the Cat" floor puzzle.
At Math Magic, children can practice their one-to-one correspondence (counting) with the use of ten-frames.
 Margo puts lower case letters in alphabetical order.
 Remy and Gabriel worked on a mosaic together.
READING WITH BUDDIES~
Pre-K children were very excited to read their "Book In A Bag" to their second grade buddies.  Then, the 2nd grade buddies read a story to their Pre-K buddy!


















STAR OFT THE WEEK~
Clare is our new "Star of the Week".  Some of Clare's favorite things include:  light blue and pink (favorite colors); Max&Erma's (favorite restaurant); and playing with her brother Jack (favorite activity).  Thank you for helping us get to know you better Clare and for sharing all of your great photos!

OUTER SPACE~
We officially "blasted off" into our study of Outer Space with the book pictured below. 

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL~
On Friday, your child came home with a note in his/her folder regarding the 100th Day of School!!!!  Please have your child complete the activities described in the note and return them to school by Wednesday morning.  Thanks!
BOOK DRIVE~
All Columbus Academy students are participating in a Book Drive.  A letter came home in your child's folder with details.

Don't forget....children can wear Academy "spiritwear" tomorrow from the waist up.  Dress Code should be worn from the waist down.

George practices recognition of upper and lower case letters at the Alphabet Station.
 Lianna engages in a counting/addition activity at Math Magic
 These children are retelling and acting out the story, Three Little Kittens, in the Book Nook.

 Anna puts numbers in order from 0 through 30.

 Graham and Avery are busy builders!
EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~ 
We did a Discovery activity today and experimented with various objects to find out if they would float or sink when placed in water.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 1-28-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...how many more days until the 100th Day of School!  (Today was the 95th day.)
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...the letter sound we did today.
...ask me to show you the motion we do when saying this letter sound.
...what we glued on the letter "U".

...how today's story of The Three Little Kittens is different from the one we read last week.
FREE CHOICE LEARNING~ 
 Anna matches and puts in order upper and lower case letters.
Numbers 1 through 31 have been posted in various places around the classroom.  Children can be number detectives--finding and recording the numbers as they find them. 
 

 At the Word Work Station, children can practice spelling 3 and 4-letter words either with or without a model.


Also at the Word Work Station, children can put together 3-piece puzzles to form 3-letter words with a picture.

 At Games Galore, children can practice their recognition of lower case letters when playing "Pop for Letters".

 MUSIC~
Playing instruments in Music Class with Ms. Schroeder.
 Playing the "groundhog game" in Music.
 STORYTIME~
Today we read another version of "Three Little Kittens".  Be sure to ask your child how the one we read today had a different ending than the one we read last week.  Children can retell  the story by acting it out with props or by using props on the flannel board.
 LETTER SOUND~
We discussed the letter sound /U/ today.  We then decorated our letter "U" with umbrellas--upside-down!

 EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Children were busy in Art Class today.  Many children chose to build a structure with marshmallows and toothpicks.



 Amara creates a picture using "crazy" scissors.
 KJ shows off his drawing skills!
