WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 12-17-14

ASK ME ABOUT...

HANDWRITING~
Today children learned and practiced writing the letter "K" in their handwriting books.


 HOLIDAY LIGHTS~
Today we read a story about Kwanzaa and how it uses light during its celebration.
 A kinara is lit during Kwanzaa.
 Africa was mentioned in today's story so we took out the globe to see where we live in relation to where Africa is.
 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!~
Today we helped Remy celebrate his December birthday.  Remy's mom read one of his favorite stories--Good Night, Good Night, Construction Site.  We then enjoyed eating Remy's birthday treat--Lego cookies!  Happy Birthday, Remy!

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
We had a rehearsal with the rest of the Lower School for tomorrow's program!

TERRIFIC TUESDAY 12-16-14

ASK ME ABOUT...
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.

...the new Mo Willems story we read--
...the kind of light that was used at the first Christmas.

Today, each child acted out the nursery rhyme, "Jack Be Nimble".  We are going to use photos of each child to make a class book.


Today the children learned and discussed the different kinds of symbols and traditions at Christmas.  We then read a book about the first Christmas.  Be sure to ask your child to tell you what kind of light was used at the first Christmas.

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~ART!
Today in Art, the children were busy making paper chains, stringing beads to make necklaces and bracelets and sculpting with clay.

MARVELOUS MONDAY 12-15-14

ASK ME ABOUT...

ALPHABET MEMORY BOOK~
For the "T" page of their Alphabet Memory Book, the Pre-K children drew 2 pictures of things that begin with the /T/ sound.  They also labeled their pictures with phonetic spelling!
 FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Lianna, Spencer and Amara were very proud of their structure they built in the Construction Zone today!
 HOLIDAY LIGHTS~
Today we read a story about Hanukkah and learned about the menorah that is lit each of the 8 nights of Hanukkah.  Be sure to ask your child how many candles are lit on the menorah.



EXTENDED DAY~TECHNOLOGY DAY!
The children were very excited to use the laptops today to do abcya.com.  Children did various activities including putting numbers in order to 100, counting, number and alphabet dot-to-dots, number identification, etc.

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 12-12-14

FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Anna S. and Spencer use pattern blocks at the Overhead Station.
 Enjoying books and stories in the Book Nook.
 Remy and Mitch designing with little Legos.
 Graham and Lianna count the pennies from the counting basket.

 HANDWRITING~
After learning and practicing the letters "P" and "B", children worked on letter "R" today.


LETTER SOUND~
Today we discussed the letter /K/ sound.  We decorated our letter "K" with kites!


EXTENDED DAY~
Today we visited our class tree and discovered it is bare!  There are just a few leaves on the tree that are now brown.   We also saw buds on the branches where new leaves will come out in the Spring.

We did a rhyming game today!

THRILLING THURSDAY 12-11-14

WORK STATIONS~
Mitch and Luke work together to find the numbers 1 through 50 hidden in the sensory tub.  Once found, they match the numbers on the number chart.

Liana exercises her spatial reasoning skills building with cubes.
George demonstrates his spatial reasoning skills, too!



FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Clare and Anna work together putting number tiles, 1 through 100 on the number chart.

 Spencer and Luke busy in the Construction Zone.
 Avery takes the time to fit many tiny Legos on to a template.

ICE CUBE EXPERIMENT~ We checked the cups where our colored ice cubes melted.  Today, there was just water in the cups.  But we discovered that the color of the water was different from the color of the ice cubes we put into the cup.

The cup that had blue and yellow ice cubes resulted in...
 green water!
 The cup with red and yellow ice cubes ended up with orange water.  The cup with red and blue ice cubes ended up with purple water.  The cup with red, yellow and blue ice cubes ended up with greenish-brown water.
  NURSERY RHYME~
Today we introduced the nursery rhyme "Jack Be Nimble".  We identified the rhymes we heard, discussed what nimble means, and why Jack needed to be nimble and quick when jumping over the candlestick.  

EXTENDED DAY~
We continued our lesson from last week on transparent and opaque.  After reviewing these concepts, we introduced and discussed what it means when something is translucent.  The children made something to demonstrate each concept and are bringing it home in their folders.  Be sure to ask your child to show and explain it to you!

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 12-10-14

COLOR DAY~

Check out our colorful morning message!
 The Pre-K teachers mixed together cake batter and added food coloring.  The children mixed in the food coloring and we ended up with 6 different colors of cake batter!

 WHITE! AND ORANGE!
 RED!
 We took out our colored ice cubes and watched them melt throughout the morning.  We ran out of time to check on them at the end of the morning.  We will do this tomorrow!
 Our story for Color Day was about a child who imagined what he would do if he had his own rainbow!

 The water from our water jug was green!
 We had blue milk to drink!






 We graphed Skittles candies to discover how many we had of each color.  Be sure to ask your child to show you his/her graph and share with you which color had the most, which color had the least and if any colors were equal!


STAR OF THE WEEK~
Our new "Star of the Week" is Rubina!  We learned that Rubina's favorite things include:  pink and purple (favorite colors); cake with pink frosting (favorite dessert); and the beach (favorite place to visit).  We enjoyed learning more about you today, Rubina!

CLASS BOOK~
Our class Birthday Book is finished and available to read in the Book Nook.  Ask your child to tell you about the Birthday Book!
