THRILLING THURSDAY 9-19-13

In today's morning message, we discussed the following....

Sophia's name has the letters "ph" in the middle which makes the /F/ sound.

The words phone and elephant also have a "ph" which makes the /F/ sound.
"CA" are the initials for Columbus Academy.

An exclamation point at the end of a sentence means you read the sentence excitedly!

 ZERO THE HERO DAY!~
Today we celebrated another Zero the Hero day as it was the 20th day of school!

Maya's mom and dad and Sophia's dad came in to help us celebrate Zero the Hero day by making bear puppets.  See if your child can tell you where all the "zeroes" are on the puppet.  Thank you for a great activity!

WORK STATIONS AND FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Children visited a different station today for Work Station time.

We added "pool noodles" in different sizes to our Construction Zone for building.

We decorated the letter "K" with kangaroos.
VISIT TO MEET THE HEAD OF SCHOOL~
Today we traveled to the Administration Building to meet Mrs. Soderberg, Head of School, in her office.  Mrs. Soderberg had Lego people in her office and a Viking ship.  She shared with us about her job and read to us a favorite childhood story of hers, Blueberries For Sal.

Ms. Schroeder introduced to us, "Mat Man".  Watching how Mat Man is built with simple shapes will help children in their drawings of people.  Also, Mat Man uses some of the same pieces that we will soon begin using in our formal handwriting program.

STORY~
Today we read the story, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly.
On a second reading, we used props.  The story and props will be available for retelling in the Book Nook during Free Choice time.
