MARVELOUS MONDAY 9-16-13

FRIENDLY FROG~
Owen was the Friendly Frog today!

MORNING MESSAGE~
On today's morning message, children were chosen and asked to circle certain words in the message.  One child was asked to count how many words were in a particular sentence.  We then explained what a sentence is and demonstrated how to count the words in a sentence.
FREE CHOICE WORK~
Today we introduced and modeled new activities at Free Choice time.

Maya is using the sewing block to practice her fine motor skills.

Berkeley is exploring the "nesting doll" at the Discovery Station.

Nate is working with gears at the Discovery Station.

Avery is using a bendable device called, "Jeliku" at the Discovery Station.

At the Creation Station, children can read the color words to complete the page pictured below.
Vivian and Carsyn are trying out the new tools with the playdough at the Creation Station.

In our Book Nook, we added a pocket chart where children can form and read simple sentences using words and pictures.

At Math Magic, children use pattern blocks to fill a hexagonal tray.

Harper chooses to display a drawing she did during Free Choice on her "pad".

 PASSWORD~
Be sure to ask your child what the new password is!

 LETTERS AND SOUNDS~
Each day for the next few weeks, we will decorate a large paper letter of the alphabet to hang in our classroom.  Children may use these as a reference in their reading and writing.  We also have an alphabet picture chart that we introduced today that can also be used as a reference.  Owen, today's Friendly Frog, chose a letter (randomly) that we will decorate tomorrow during Free Choice.  Stay tuned!

FAMILY FLAGS~
Today, each child shared his/her family flag.  The flags are now displayed alongside our family photos.
