WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 3-5-14

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the new work stations I did.
...what I did in Spanish.
...our new Star of the Week.
...how many days we've been in school.
...what we did to celebrate Zero the Hero Day.
...the book, A is for Astronaut.
...what August reported in the moon journal.
...what we watched on the SMARTboard.

NEW WORK STATIONS~
At Games Galore, children can choose which game they would like to play.
At the Fine Motor Station, children are working on strengthening their cutting skills.
At the Discovery Station, children can choose from a variety of Outer Space activities.  In the photo below, Willa is arranging the planets on a magnetic board using a poster as a reference.

Another child works on filling a rocket shape with pattern blocks.
Another child works on a jigsaw puzzle of Outer Space.
At Math Magic, children are working on ordering numbers from 1 to 30, with the option of going to 100.   Children begin with a strip of numbers (see photo below) and cut them apart.  They then glue the numbers into the correct order on to another strip of paper.
At the Alphabet Station, children can choose from variety of activities, including word finds, rhyming, reading Outer Space words, spelling simple words, and identifying sounds of objects.
At the Writing Station, children choose a letter to trace.  Next, they draw 3 pictures beginning with that particular letter sound.  They then write the words for the pictures.
At the Project Station, children are working on math skills using activities from abcya.com on the computer.

At the Creation Station, children are creating their own Outer Space picture.  These will be displayed on the bulletin board outside of our classroom.

FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
We added cardboard bricks to our Construction Zone.  Walker, Brett and Owen built the structure pictured below.

ZERO THE HERO DAY~
Today was our 120th day of school!  August and his parents helped us celebrate by bringing in ceramic pots to decorate, put dirt inside, and plant some seeds.  Children could choose from tomato seeds or zinnia seeds. Thank you for a great activity to help us celebrate!
STAR OF THE WEEK~
Mrs. Spolter is our new Star of the Week!  Her favorite things include:  Chipotle (favorite restaurant), iced sugar cookies (favorite dessert), and getting a pedicure (favorite activity)!

Today we read an alphabet story about Outer Space.  We even learned about a vomit comet (A place where astronauts practice being weightless here on Earth and sometimes get sick!).
