OUTER SPACE~
Today we read the story, There's No Place Like Space!.
After reading the story, each child had the opportunity to share something he/she wonders/wants to know about Outer Space.  Here are some of their questions...
~Where do the planets come from?
How do the astronauts go to Outer Space?
How do aliens get into Outer Space?
How can the astronauts stick a flag into the moon?
Is the Milky Way made out of milk?
Whey are there aliens out in Space?
What are the rings around Saturn made of?
Why does the moon get half sometimes and not half sometimes?
How do the planets get their colors?
How do stars always stay in Outer Space?
Whey is there a leather rope in Outer Space?
Can someone jump from Space to Earth with a parachute?
How does the Rover drive on the moon?
How do the sun and the moon travel around the Earth?
How can you see your reflection inside the moon?
How could all of the planets fit inside of Jupiter?
How can an alien get in the moon?
How does the rocket get out of the Earth and into Space?

We have a lot of work and learning to do!

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 1-15-14

ASK ME ABOUT...
...what I did in P.E.
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...how many months are in one year.
...how many seasons are in one year.
...our new homework assignment, "We Can Read!"
...what I learned about Martin Luther King, Jr.

 WE CAN READ!
Today your child brought home a note in his/her folder explaining an ongoing homework activity we will do for the remainder of the school year.  We explained this activity to the children today and they are very excited!   There are common everyday labels, signs, etc. (shopping bags, food labels, etc.)  that children can read.  So, as your child discovers he/she can read a label, sign, etc., have him/her cut out the word and bring it in.  We will have your child share the word and  then add it to our classroom bulletin board, titled, "We can read!".
When shown the labels in the photo below, children were eager and excited to discover they could read them!

FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Morgan and Harper work on patterns.

Carsyn and Sophia build a pipe structure.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
In an effort to introduce and explain Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work, we had a discussion about what fairness means.  The children provided some great explanations including, "being kind to others".  Next, we explained that there were some unfair laws (rules) a long time ago that MLK, Jr. helped to change.  We read a story about MLK, Jr. and discussed ways that we could be fair to others at school, at home, etc.
