THRILLING THURSDAY 11-19-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...the story, A Rainbow of my Own.
...what I did in Spanish.
...what colorful snack we had.
...the new "Star of the Week".
...what I learned about the holiday, Diwali.
...what we used to decorate our letter "V".
 MORNING MESSAGE~
Take a look at the question on today's Morning Message.  There is more than 1 answer.  Ask your child to tell you how he/she answered the question and why.
 STORYTIME~
Our color story today was by Don Freeman and was about a rainbow.  (Be sure to ask your child what other books (about a bear) that this author also wrote.)  After the story, the children were told they would have a rainbow of their own today.

SPECIAL, COLORFUL SNACK~
Small group of children were given a bowl of cake batter with some food coloring (not yet mixed in).  Each child took turns stirring the batter to discover what color the batter would become.

While the children were in Spanish, Mrs. "B" and Mrs. Spolter used the colorful cake batter to make cupcakes.

When you bite into the cupcake, there is a rainbow.  The rainbow each child received today was in his/her cupcake at snack!
We decorated our letter "V" with vikings.

 DIWALI~
Tej and his Mom helped us learn more about the Diwali holiday which started last Saturday.  The children learned what things people do when celebrating Diwali and why they celebrate Diwali.  Thank you for sharing!

 STAR OF THE WEEK~
Our new "Star of the Week" is Gisele!  Today we learned that Gisele's favorite things include:  green (favorite color); DisneyWorld (favorite place to visit); and a horse (favorite animal).  Thank you for sharing your photos with us.  We enjoyed getting to know you better, Gisele!

Today was a Discovery day!  Children used eyedroppers to transfer colored vinegar into a tray with baking soda.  This caused a visible reaction and was also another way to try to mix together primary colors to make secondary colors.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 11-18-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...what we used to decorate the letter "Y".
...what I did in my Letter Group.
...what I did in P.E.
...the story Being Thankful.
...the things I am thankful for.
 FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Sam and Ian work together to fill in the number tiles 1 through 100!

We decorated our letter "Y" with yellow yarn.
 THANKFULNESS~
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, we read a book about being thankful and discussed what it means to be thankful.
Following our discussion, children were asked to draw 3 things for which they are thankful.  We are going to laminate the papers so the children can use them as placemats for Thanksgiving!

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
We postponed today's cooking activity until Monday.  Today we introduced 2 new activities that will be at our Games Galore station for use during Free Choice time.  "Rush Hour, Jr." is a game involving problem-solving and logical thinking.  The second game, Zingo--Numbers, involves one-to-one correspondence and addition.

...the story, Mrs. Wishy Washy and the Big Wash.

STORYTIME~
Today we read a story about Mrs. Wishy-Washy.  The story was filled with rhyming.  One Pre-K student said that the author tricked us.  On the front cover of this book, it looks like
Mrs. Wishy-Washy is going to wash her clothes.  In the story, she washes something different.  Be sure to ask your child what she washes!

We decorated our letter "W" with watches!

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
We helped Mr. Cross celebrate his November birthday today!

 Second Step~
Second Step started off a little upsetting. Mr. Cross gave one student one Teddy Graham and another student a whole handful (his handful, which is way bigger than a PreK'ers). The other students did not get any. Then we talked about this. We all decided that this was not fair and that it is better to share. So we shared a whole bag and everyone got one Teddy Graham.

We also talked about a picture of two people (Nicki and Mathew). We discussed how Nicki was sad because she wanted a turn on the swing but Mathew was on the swing. It would not be fair if Mathew was on the swing for the entire recess and it would also not be fair if Nicki was on the swing the entire recess. They had to share

The last thing that we did was talk about different situations and if they were fair or unfair. We showed a thumbs up for fair and a thumbs down for unfair.
