TERRIFIC TUESDAY 10-27-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the new "have-to" activities at Work Stations.
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...what I did in my Letter Group.
...what book Mrs. Arner read to us at the library.
...what book I checked out from the library.
...the books I looked at from the Book Fair.
...the story, Arnie and His School Tools.
...our new "Star of the Week".

WORK STATIONS~
Today we introduced new Work Stations.  Following is a description of the "have-to" tasks that your child will complete during this set of Work Stations.

After reading the story The Day The Crayons Quit, we decided to make our own class book pleading with the crayons not to quit.  Each child chose a color and why he/she would not want that particular color to quit.  During Work Stations, children will illustrate his/her page for our class book.

At the Creation Station, children will create their own patchwork elephant after reading the story, Elmer.
At the Fine Motor Station, children cut out 4 pumpkins and glue them in order by size.

At Math Magic, children flip a pumpkin and record the results on a graph.

Another activity at "Math Magic" has children coloring in certain numbers on a 100-chart with certain colors.  When completed, there is a picture that emerges!

STAR OF THE WEEK~
Nathan is the "Star of the Week"!  Today we learned that Nathan's favorite things include a parrot (favorite animal); chocolate cake (favorite dessert); and Rubino's Pizza (favorite restaurant).  Nathan also shared his stuffed monkey--a favorite toy.  We enjoyed getting to know you better, Nathan!

BOOK FAIR~
Mrs. Bundy visited us today with a collection of books from the Book Fair.  After reading one of the books to the class, children had the opportunity to look at the collection of books.

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
We did phonemic awareness activities on the SMARTBoard, focusing on rhyming sounds and syllables in words.

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the compound word in our Morning Message.
...the new password.
...the new Free Choice activities.
...what I did in Music/Drama.
...the story, Elmer.
...what numbers I learned and practiced writing.

 MORNING MESSAGE~
In today's Morning Message, we discussed what a compound word is.  Be sure to ask your child what compound word was in our Morning Message.

 FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
At Math Magic, children can practice their one-to-one correspondence by counting and coloring in apples on a tree.

Our budding Pre-K authors have started writing books!
At the Fine Motor Station, children peel and place small stickers on the outline of a pumpkin.

Children can recreate the life cycle of a pumpkin story.

Ian and Lyndon in a challenging game of Colorama.
 Bella looking through colored lenses.
 COLORS~
Be sure to ask your child about the story we read today about an elephant who tried to change his color.  Children can retell this story using props in our Book Nook.

 NUMBER WRITING~
Today we learned and practiced writing the numbers 5 and 6.  Be sure to ask your child to share the poems we say to help us remember how to write these numbers.

Today was a Swimming Day!  A gentle reminder:  Please have girls wear pants or leggings under a jumper (no tights) on swimming days.  This makes for easier dressing after swimming class.  Thank you!

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 10-23-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the question on the Morning Message.
...playing with Pre-K "B" on the playground.
...the campfire!
...what I did in Spanish.
...the story, Pumpkin Circle.
MORNING MESSAGE~
Be sure to ask your child how he/she answered the question on the Morning Message.  Also, ask your child to read the first sentence to you as it is written (i.e. with the word FANTASTIC in all upper case letters and an exclamation point at the end).
 Playing with Pre-K "B" on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th playground.

 CAMPFIRE~
We had a GREAT time at the campfire!  Our 2nd grade buddies were with us on this excursion.  The Lower School librarians (Ms. Oeth and Mrs. Arner) told us stories and taught us a song.  Then, our buddies roasted marshmallows for the s'mores we ate.
