 NEW WORK STATIONS~
We started a new set of Work Stations today!  Check out the photos below to find out what we are doing!

At the Sensory Tub, children can play with a mixture of corn starch and shaving cream--an interesting sensory experience!
.
At the Fine Motor Station, children peel off stickers and place them on to the outline of the shape.
At the Creation Station, children are creating their own snowperson using a variety of recycled materials  (a.k.a. junk)!

At Games Galore, children are fishing for numbers!  Once he/she catches a fish, the child reads the number on the fish in order to place it in the bucket.
In the Book Nook, children put together and read the poem, "I'm A Little Snowman"  on the pocket chart.
At Math Magic, children are doing an addition activity using ten frames.

Last week, children shared with the class what they like to do during the Winter, which we are turning into a class book.  At the Writing Station, children are working on their own page for our class book about Winter.  First, children put in order the words describing the activity(ies) they like to do in Winter.  Then, they illustrate their page.

At the Alphabet Station, children roll a die and record if the lower case b or d appears on the die.

WINTER~
To help us get ready to create a Winter Wonderland on the bulletin board, we read the story, Stranger in the Woods.  Next, children created items pertaining to Winter for our bulletin board.  Check out the before and after photos!

At the Fine Motor Station, children can practice their fine motor, counting, and reading skills with the activity pictured below.

Children choose which side of the card they want to read to instruct them on how many pom poms to transfer from the pile to the section.

Also at the Fine Motor Station are Hexabits.  Children snap the pieces together to make different designs.

HANDWRITING~
Children practiced writing the upper case letters Q and O in their handwriting books.

 WINTER POEM~
Today we introduced the winter poem, "I'm A Little Snowman".

Children can use the green dots to help them see the separation of the words.  The red dots are close to the periods which means you stop!  And, today the children learned about a comma--the yellow dots.  We explained that when you see a comma when reading, you pause, take a breath, etc.

Children practiced putting together the words of the poem and pictures in order.  They will have the chance to do this again with their partner during Work Station time.

WINTER~
After reading the story, Snow Day, each child had a turn to share what he/she likes to do in the winter.  Next week, during Work Station time, children will have the opportunity to draw/color a picture of what they like to do in winter which we will turn into a class book.

As a follow-up activity to Snowballs, children will choose a snow person (with or without a hat) and use recycled items to create a face, body, clothes, accessories, etc. on the snow person.
