FANTASTIC FRIDAY 4-22-16

ASK ME ABOUT...
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...what I did in Music/Drama.
...what I did in Spanish.
...the book, The Earth Book.
...ways I can help the Earth.
...what happened in Charlotte's Web

~EARTH DAY~
Today we read The Earth Book by Todd Parr which provided us with ideas on how to take care of the Earth.   During Free Choice time, children chose how to create their Earth--using colored pencils, crayons, torn paper, markers, water color paint, etc.  Next week, we will have each child choose a way that he/she will help to take care of the Earth.

~CONSTRUCTION ZONE~
We continue to be impressed with the creative thinking and cooperative efforts happening when students are building in the Construction Zone.

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today Mr. Cross did a Second Step lesson on ways to "politely" interrupt someone if you need to speak to him/her.  Children had the opportunity to practice this skill.

THRILLING THURSDAY 4-21-16

ASK ME ABOUT...
...the question on the Morning Message.
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.
...what I did in P.E.
...what I learned about Passover.
...the letters I learned and practiced writing.
...the symmetry activity we did with a butterfly.
...the symmetry game we played.
...how we helped tell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

~MORNING MESSAGE~
Ask your child to share with you which shape on the Morning Message is symmetrical and why.
 ~PASSOVER~
Tomorrow evening marks the beginning of the Passover holiday.  Today we read a story about Passover and offered matzoh to try at snack.
 ~FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Max and Camille practice what they have learned about symmetry.
 Bella creates a symmetrical person.
Today the Bat Cave was built in the Construction Zone.
We added a new problem-solving activity to Math Magic...
We added butterfly coloring pages to the Creation Station.  We are noticing that the children are applying what they are learning about symmetry when coloring their butterflies.

Samantha persevered to put together a new butterfly life cycle puzzle.

~HANDWRITING~
Today we learned and practiced how to write the letters "M" and "N".

 ~STORY TIME~
Today we reread the story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar using props.

 ~SYMMETRY~
We reviewed what we have been learning about symmetry.  Children helped to create symmetrical wings on a butterfly.  We also looked at various pictures of objects and determined if each object was or was not symmetrical.

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was an Art day with Mr. Cicetti!

~FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
Bella creates a train with the wooden shapes, hammer and nails.
Sally creates a symmetrical design.

Busy builders in the Construction Zone!  Their construction reminds Mrs. Spolter of New York City!

Rocco builds with the cube puzzle.

~HANDWRITING~
Today we learned and practiced the correct way to make the letters "K" and "A".

 ~SYMMETRY~
Since we are studying butterflies and a butterfly's wings are symmetrical, we did a lesson/activity today about symmetry.

~EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was a "Teacher's Choice" day.  Since the weather was beautiful, we decided to take our learning outside!  We extended our symmetry learning from this morning.  The children were put in partners and provided with various materials.  Using those materials, the partners designed something symmetrical (using a ruler as their line of symmetry).  Here are their creations....
