WE CAN READ!~
So far, the children are bringing in and sharing many words they have found that they can read.  They are so proud!  For small words, we glue them into our "We Can Read!" notebook (pictured below) which is kept in the Book Nook.
For larger printed words, we put them on our "We Can Read!" bulletin board.

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 1-23-15

ASK ME ABOUT...
...what I did in Music.
...the snowman patterns we made.
...the tally marks activity we did.

EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today we read the story, Animals in Winter, and continued our discussions about what animals do to survive the cold Winter.  Animals that stay in the cold weather build up fat in their bodies to keep warm.  We did an experiment so that the children could feel how the fat keeps animals warm.  We covered one of the child's fingers with lard/shortening.  Using two bowls of ice water, the child was instructed to put the finger with the lard and one finger from the other hand in the bowls of water.  The finger without the lard got cold, while the finger covered in lard was protected from the cold water.  The children thought this was a neat experiment!

 FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
We added materials to our "snow" playdough so the children can create playdough snowmen.

Margo put all the number tiles, 1 through 100, in the template all by herself!  She even counted to 100 when she was finished!
 WE CAN READ!~
Today we read a story called, Oh How I Wished I Could Read!  Then, the children were shown some labels from familiar stores and food to prove that they can read!  We then explained a reading homework activity that will continue throughout the rest of the school year.  Please refer to the note that came home in your child's folder today.

 ZERO THE HERO!~
Today was our 90th day of school!  (The children are VERY excited that the next Zero the Hero Day is 100!!)  Graham's mom and sister helped us celebrate by bringing in materials for us to make a Valentine's Day wreath.  Thank you for helping us celebrate!  Happy 90th Day of School, Pre-K!
 EXTENDED DAY PRE-K~
Today was a Cooking Day and we made banana chips!  The children peeled and sliced a banana and then dipped each slice into lemon juice (which was fresh-squeezed by the children).  The banana chips were then put into the oven and had to bake for 3 hours!  So, we will have them tomorrow morning for snack!

...what materials/objects I used to make tally marks.
...where I went and what I did for Work Stations.

MORNING MESSAGE~
Here was this morning's question on the Morning Message.
One student recognized the word "king" inside of the word "viking".  So, then we looked for other words inside of words...
We found "bus" in the word Columbus.
We found the word "friend" in Friendly.
 We found "day" in Tuesday.
 We then reviewed compound words.

 TALLY MARKS~
We reviewed what we learned last week about tally marks.
Luke demonstrates what the amount of 7 looks like with tally marks.

Margo demonstrates what 11 looks like with tally marks.
KJ shows the number 5 using tally marks.
After reviewing tally marks, each child was given a "manipulative" and a number to represent in tally marks.

DRAMATIC PLAY STATION~
We transformed our Dramatic Play Station into a school/classroom.
