TERRIFIC TUESDAY 9-24-13

FRIENDLY FROG~
Walker was the Friendly Frog today!

 NURSERY RHYME~
Throughout the school year, we will use several nursery rhymes to develop and strengthen emerging reading skills (rhyming, sight word knowledge, etc.).  Today we introduced our first nursery rhyme, "Mary Had A Little Lamb".  We identified the rhyming words, defined "fleece", discussed why the lamb followed Mary, and shared why it was against the rules to have a lamb in school.
Willa shared her fleece jacket with everyone when we were defining/explaining fleece.
In the Book Nook, children were shown book copies of "Mary Had A Little Lamb".

Also in the Book Nook, we put the nursery rhyme together using sentence strips and picture cards.  The children also learned that under each word is a green dot (to help them with 1-to-1 correspondence when reading) and at each period is a red dot which means the sentence stops (and you pause before reading on).  Children can put together the nursery rhyme on their own during Free Choice time.

We introduced new activities today at some of the stations.

Kyndal matches upper and lower case letters.
Children can form letters in the playdough using Legos.
Children can experience using flubber at the Discovery Station.

August called this a "masterpiece"!

Carsyn used her math and fine motor skills to put the correct number of beads on to the pipe cleaners.

We decorated our letter "F" with frog faces!!!!
The game pictured below is now available at Games Galore.  This game provides children with practice in taking turns.

The children have become very creative when building with the "pool noodles" in the Construction Zone.

At the Alphabet Station, Kyndal uses tweezers to choose an upper case letter bead and then match it to the lower case letter on a mat.
