WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 9-4-13

Carsyn and Kyndal do a size sorting activity at the Discovery Station.
Berkeley traces the letters of her name with a dry erase marker at the Writing Station.  Children can practice tracing/writing their classmates' names, as well.

Noah spells words at the Alphabet Station.

Vivian and Morgan exercising their drawing skills at the easel.
Owen enjoying a book in the Book Nook.
Owen and Avery working to create a mosaic at the Creation Station.
 ROSH HASHANAH~
Today we read a story about the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah which begins at sunset this evening.  Tomorrow, we will eat apples and honey for snack!

 LIBRARY~
Tomorrow we will visit the library again.  Please remind your child to return his/her book if he/she has not already done so.  When children bring back a book to return to the library, they put it in the basket pictured below in our classroom.
 FROG CARDS~
Today we introduced the frog cards to the class.  This is the way each child "checks in" when he/she arrives at the classroom.  A child finds the card with his/her name and turns it over to the frog side.

Ball, ball, who has the ball?~
We played a game today to continue to help us learn everyone's name.

CLASS RULES~
Today the children shared and discussed rules that they have to follow at home.  When asked why we have rules, the children mentioned that rules help us know what to do and help to keep us safe.  We then brainstormed rules that are important for our classroom and our school.  Below were ideas provided by the children.  Next, we will condense the rules into 3 or 4 main rules that encompass all the rules listed below.

2ND GRADE BUDDIES~
Today we met our 2nd grade buddies.  These 2nd graders will remain our buddies for the entire school year.  We will meet with our buddies periodically (about once a month) throughout the school year.  Ask your child to share his/her "Get To Know Your Buddy" paper.  These were brought home today in folders.

Today we started our calendar activities.   We discussed the name of the month, the day of the week, and put up the date.

We colored in today's weather report (provided by the Friendly Frog).   It was sunny and windy.
