FANTASTIC FRIDAY 11-9-12

RAINBOWS~
As part of our study of colors, we read a non-fiction book today about rainbows.  Here are some things we learned......
~Rainbows can be seen after a rainstorm when the sun comes out.
~Raindrops (or water) bends the sunlight which create the colors of the rainbow.
~Sunlight and water makes rainbows.
~Rainbows are more commonly seen early in the morning or late in the afternoon
when the sun is low in the sky.
~Red is always at the top of the rainbow.
~Violet is always at the bottom of the rainbow.
~The color indigo is a mixture of blue and violet.

We also discovered that you can use a prism to see a rainbow!  The prism is like the raindrops or water--the shape of it bends the light which creates a "rainbow".

TERRIFIC TUESDAY 11-6-12

~SOUND BOX~
REMINDER:  Sound Box sharing this week will be on Thursday and Friday since tonight has been designated as "Family Night" and there is to be no homework.  Please assist your child in choosing and bringing in items that begin with the hard /C/ sound and letter (card, car, etc.).  Save items beginning with letter "K" for the week when we do that letter.  Items that begin with the /CH/ sound should not be brought for Sound Box.  Thanks!

MORNING MEETING~
During Morning Meeting, we did a new activity ("Bug In A Rug") which exercised observing and memory skills.  One child is chosen to be the scientist and "hides" his/her eyes in the other room.  The teacher chooses a child to be the bug and hides the child under the "rug".  The scientist then returns to the group and has 3 chances to guess which classmate is "The Bug In The Rug"!

NEW COLOR EXPERIMENT~

Using cups of water that are the primary colors eyedroppers, and a tray, children can experiment with mixing colors.

 VOTING ACTIVITY~
We did our own voting in Pre-K "A" to determine what we would eat for snack tomorrow.  Children had 3 choices from which to vote.  Voting was done individually in the Book Nook during Free Choice time. We even had ballots and stickers saying that we voted!

Here are the results of our voting.....

We will soon begin working on the correct formation of numbers when writing them.  Today, we used our wooden pieces to create the numbers to help prepare us for writing them.

Today, we asked each child to tell us his/her favorite color and we made a graph.  Ask your child to tell you about the graph using the photo below.  You could ask...

~Which color has the least?
~Are there any colors that are equal?
