MARVELOUS MONDAY 4-22-13

EARTH DAY~
Today we read the story, The Earth and I, in honor of Earth Day!  Last week, we discussed recycling and started our composting with our "worm hotel".  Our worms LOVE paper.  Children can bring in newspaper from home that we will tear and feed to the worms for composting.  We will continue to discuss and learn ways that we can help take care of our Earth.  This Friday, the Lower School will celebrate our Earth by wearing a special shirt color.  An e-mail was sent this morning explaining what shirt color the children can wear.  The note sent via e-mail is also pictured below.

SPECIAL FRIENDS' DAY

In your child's folder today, he/she brought home information in a large white envelope about an upcoming, annual, special event in the Lower School called, "Special Friends' Day".  This event will take place on Friday May 10th.   Inside the envelope is a letter from Mr. Vorenberg explaining the event and also a special invitation (illustrated by your child) to send to the special friend that will accompany your child to school on this day.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

 COMPOSTING~
Mrs. Terwin visited our class today for another lesson on taking care of our Earth.  Pre-K will have its own composting unit with worms--red wiggler worms.  We will "feed" the worms paper scraps, newspaper, and any non-dairy and non-meat scraps from our snacks.  Your child is welcome to bring in old newspapers from home until the end of the year to feed to our worms.
