FREE CHOICE LEARNING~

Sophia threads beads on to pipe cleaners at the Fine Motor Station.

 Bittania shows her finished creation with beads on the pipe cleaners.

 

 Lily and Shelby build and read sentences.

Will and David play a game of "Blast Off" (a.k.a. "Go Fish) with Space cards.

 We added a new manipulative to our Fine Motor Station--"Hexabits".  Check out what children created with these in the photos below...

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 4-5-13

BLAST OFF!

To learn more about the space shuttle and how it gets into Outer Space, we read the book, Liftoff!

Then, we did a "rocket simulation".   We videoed the rocket simulation but are having technical difficulties posting it on the Blog.  Stay tuned!  We are going to keep trying!

THRILLING THURSDAY 4-4-13

ASTRONAUTS~

Today we read the book, Floating In Space, and learned more about astronauts and how they function when they are traveling in Outer Space.  We then drew our own pictures of an astronaut.

 

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE~

In your child's folder, you will find a note and a ziplock bag explaining a community service project the Lower School is doing to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House here in Columbus.  Start collecting those tabs!

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 4-3-13

ZERO THE HERO DAY!

Today we celebrated the 130th day of school.  Ryan and his mom brought in materials for us to make a paper bag house.  Thank you for helping us celebrate!

BLINK!

We have introduced a new game at Games Galore that has quickly become very popular. So, we wanted to share it with you!  It's called, "Blink".  This is a great thinking game involving attributes.

TERRIFIC TUESDAY 4-2-13

FREE CHOICE~

At the Discovery Station, children can create a rocket that flies when they blow it through a straw.  BLAST OFF!!

 Cody and Lily count the rocks from the counting basket.

 RHYMING~

Today we read a silly, funny story about rhyming.  We also learned/did the song "Down By the Bay" which involves silly rhymes.   Please remember to have your child bring in 2 items/objects that rhyme by this Friday.  Thanks!

 HANDWRITING~

Today we practiced the correct formation when writing the upper case letters U, C, and O.  Ask your child to demonstrate at home for you!

 RUSH HOUR~

We introduced a new game that will be available at Games Galore--Rush Hour--during Free Choice time.  It's a game of strategy and problem solving.
