MARVELOUS MONDAY 1-14-13

NEW WORK STATIONS~
Today we introduced new work stations that we will do for the next 2 weeks.  Following is a description and photo of our new work stations.
At the Alphabet Station, children will match pictures that rhyme.

At Math Magic, students will complete a graph.

At the Writing Station, children are cutting apart a sentence (their words) and gluing them in order on to the Winter picture they drew.  We will compile all of the pages into a class book and add it to the Book Nook in our classroom.

At the Project Station, children will work on laptops with RazKids, which is a program where children can read and listen to books and take a quiz for comprehension.  We will send home further information about RazKids at the end of January, so that your child can access this program on your home computer, as well.
At the Fine Motor Station, children will draw the other half of the snowman.
At the Creation Station, children will create the parts of a snowman using various, random, recycled items.  We will display the snowmen in our classroom.

At the Overhead Station, children choose passwords from the word wall and then spell them with letter tiles on the overhead projector.

 NEW POPCORN WORD~
Our new popcorn word is....
 PRE-K ALPHABET MEMORY BOOK~
To review the /J/ sound we did last week, children drew pictures of a jaguar and a jack-o-lantern.  Children then had to think of 2 more items beginning with /J/ and draw them on to their page.  Be sure to ask your child what he/she drew!
At the Discovery Station, children can construct "snow sculptures" with styrofoam balls and toothpicks.

We added Geoboards to Math Magic.
Dominic and London are building with Zoobs in the Construction Zone.

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY~
Today we celebrated Josh's birthday!  Josh's mom read the story, Even Aliens Need Snacks.  We then enjoyed eating Drumsticks for Josh's birthday snack.  Happy Birthday, Josh!

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 1-11-13

Check out what we glued on to the letter "J".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!~
We helped Graham celebrate his birthday today!  Graham's mom read the story, There's A Wocket In My Pocket--a great story filled with many rhymes.  After the story, we enjoyed yummy donuts for Graham's birthday treat.
Happy Birthday, Graham!

STAR OF THE WEEK~
Ryan is our "Star of the Week".  Today we learned that Ryan's favorite color is blue; favorite restaurant is Brio; and  his favorite activity is playing with his toy cars.  Thank you for showing your photos and telling us about your favorite things, Ryan!

 STORYTIME~
We read 2 great stories today.  The first book, A Giraffe and a Half,  is filled with silliness and rhymes.  The second book, Snowballs, is one we read to get ready to make our own "snow people next week.

THRILLING THURSDAY 1-10-13

THE GINGERBREAD MAN~
Today we read the story, The Gingerbread Boy.   On the last page of the story, there was a note from the Gingerbread Man that said,
"Catch me if you can!
I'm the Gingerbread Man!
If you want to find me,
come take a look
in the place at school
where you can check out a book!"
So, we all lined up and went to the library.  Be sure to ask your child what happened once we got to the library; where we went on the rest of our hunt for the Gingerbread Man; and what happened when we got back to our classroom!  The photos below will help tell the story.
