Today we discussed and learned the similarities and differences between moths and butterflies.
Here is what we learned.....
~Moths and butterflies are insects.
~Moths and butterflies use their antennae for smelling.
~Moths and butterflies have wings.
~A butterfly's wings are usually brightly-colored, while a moth's wings are usually dull in color.
~A butterfly emerges from a chrysalis, while a moth emerges from a cocoon.
~A butterfly flies during the day, while a moth flies during the night.
~A butterfly's antennae look like they have "knobs" at the end, while a moth's antennae look "feathery".
~When a butterfly or moth rests, each holds its wings differently.
FREE CHOICE LEARNING~
New activities at Free Choice include......
Lily and Sophia filling a template with small beads at the Fine Motor Station (a VERY tedious task)!
At Math Magic, children can put together the parts of a "caterpillar" by counting by 10's, 5's or 1's. Marc put together the one counting by 10's.
Cody put together the caterpillar parts, counting by 5's.
SUMMER~
We read a book called Summer and then each child shared what he/she likes to do in the summer. We are going to create a class book about what we like to do in the summer.
FROM CATERPILLAR TO CHRYSALIS~
Today each child wrapped up his/her egg carton caterpillar into a chrysalis and hung it in the classroom. Stay tuned!!
