TERRIFIC TUESDAY 4-30-13

 FREE CHOICE FUN~

We currently have "OOBLECK" in our sensory tub.  Last week, during Extended Day Pre-K, we read the book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, by Dr. Seuss.  We then made our own oobleck (cornstarch and water) to experience in the classroom.  Besides the fact that this substance is messy and "gooey", it changes from a solid to a liquid and from a liquid to a solid depending on how you handle it.
 LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
Today we read the story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.  We retold the story a 2nd time using flannel board pieces.  Be sure to ask your child about the mistake that is in this story!

We have transformed out Dramatic Play Station into a Butterfly Garden!

During Free Choice, children put together 8 photos depicting the life cycle of a butterfly into the correct sequential order.

 LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
Today we read the story, "Where Butterflies Grow".  We learned many facts, including that butterflies taste with their feet!  Following the story, we brainstormed what we could make for our Dramatic Play Station to look more like a Butterfly Garden.
Some children made a chrysalis and hung them on the "branches" of the "tree".

Some children made caterpillar eggs on a green leaf to add to our Butterfly Garden.
Some children made caterpillars for our Butterfly Garden.
