QUIET TIME ON QUILTS

THRILLING THURSDAY 2-28-13

EARTH, MOON, AND SUN~
Today we did an activity to help us understand how the Earth turns; how the Earth travels around the Sun; and how the Moon travels around the Earth.  We used a song and props for this lesson!  Be sure to ask your child...
...how long does it take the Earth to spin around 1 time?
...how long does it take the Moon to travel around the Earth?
...how long does it take for the Earth to travel around the Sun?

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY 2-27-13

We learned and practiced the correct formation for writing the letters L, F, and E!

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 2-15-13

HEART ESTIMATION ACTIVITY~
To begin this activity, children made a guess of how many Valentine candy hearts would fit in the heart on their paper.  Next, they filled the heart with the candies; counted the candies; and then recorded their answer.

 STAR OF THE WEEK~
Today we learned more about our friend, Bittania.  Some of her favorites include favorite restaurant:  Cheesecake Factory; favorite animal:  baby Panda; and favorite dessert Oreos in ice cream.  Thank you for helping us get to know you better, Bittania!

Check out what we used to decorate our letter "L"!

HEARTPRINTS~
Today we read the story, Heartprints.  Next, we discussed ways we can leave a good "heartprint" on others--saying and doing kind things for someone.  We recorded our ideas on a large heart.

We also talked about "bad" heartprints or things that a person says or does to us that makes us feel sad.  We recorded our ideas on a large heart and then crumpled it--symbolizing how our hearts feel when someone says or does something unkind to us.

In a basket in our room, we will have "heartprints" that the children can give to one another when a classmate does or says something kind to them.  If your child brings home a heart like the one in the photo below, be sure to ask him/her why he/she received the heartprint!
