TERRIFIC TUESDAY 12-18-12

P.E. SHOES~
Your child has brought home his/her P.E. shoes today.  Please check them for fit, comfort, etc.  If the shoes still fit, please send them back to school.  If they don't fit, please send in a pair that do fit.  We would like for all children to bring a pair of P.E. shoes to school by Monday January 7th.  Thank you!

Since we are learning and practicing the /V/ sound this week, we invited Mr. VORENBERG to VISIT our classroom.  He read us the story, Snow Day.

MARVELOUS MONDAY 12-17-12

NEW FREE CHOICE ACTIVITIES~
Children can practice their cutting skills at the Fine Motor Station with a zig zag cutting activity.  When finished cutting the zig zags, children tuck them in an envelope to bring home.

The Dramatic Play Station has transformed into the "Viking Veterinarian Office".

We brought back Legos to the Construction Zone.
Children can listen to the story, Time To Sleep, at the Listening Station.

Drawing on circular paper at the easel.
Using teamwork to count the many tiny gifts in the counting basket.

At Math Magic, children roll dice, add the total number of dots, and then color in the corresponding number on their chart.  We call it "Pre-K Yahtzee"!

At the Alphabet Station, children graph the "popcorn" words on their paper.

At the Lily Pad, children are working with language learning centers with Mrs "B'.  One of the learning centers asks the child to identify the beginning sounds of words.  If they are ready, we will have children identify the ending instead of the beginning sounds of words.
In the other language learning center, children are writing the color words using their sight word knowledge and/or their phonetic spelling.
At the Creation Station, children use holiday pasta shapes to create and continue a pattern.

FANTASTIC FRIDAY 12-14-12

 ZOMO THE RABBIT~
Be sure to ask your child about this story--it's a tale from West Africa.  We discussed vocabulary words such as clever and wisdom.  Ask your child what Zomo had to retrieve in order to be granted knowledge and how he retrieved each item!

 WRITER'S WORKSHOP~
Mrs. "B" shared a story about her childhood today to begin our Writer's Workshop.
Ask your child what he/she drew during Writer's Workshop today and the word he/she wrote to label the picture.

SOUND OF THE WEEK~
Can you tell what we used to decorate our letter "Z"?
 CLASS COLOR BOOK~
Remember when we wore our different colored shoes on Color Day?  We compiled a story about our shoes.  Beginning on Monday, each child will have the opportunity to bring home our class color book to share with his/her family for one evening.  Happy Reading!
